Enterprise software assumptions

ATP #39 had shades of the terrific Hypercritical podcast. John Siracusa, in inimitable fashion, discusses the four assumptions of enterprise software, why it's terrible and why companies buy it.

  1. When a new version of OS X comes out, assume your enterprise software will not work with it.
  2. You will not be able to get the software you need.
  3. What works in the rest of the world does not work in the enterprise world.
  4. Sometimes despite all the terrible things that are terrible about enterprise software, it's at least partially your fault.

Replace OS X with Windows, and the first point arguably still stands. If you enjoyed Hypercritical, you'll like this episode too.
