Enterprise software assumptions
ATP #39 had shades of the terrific Hypercritical podcast. John Siracusa, in inimitable fashion, discusses the four assumptions of enterprise software, why it's terrible and why companies buy it.
- When a new version of OS X comes out, assume your enterprise software will not work with it.
- You will not be able to get the software you need.
- What works in the rest of the world does not work in the enterprise world.
- Sometimes despite all the terrible things that are terrible about enterprise software, it's at least partially your fault.
Replace OS X with Windows, and the first point arguably still stands. If you enjoyed Hypercritical, you'll like this episode too.
