There is a big storage cabinet at my mom's place. It is very full with my stuff. That was all she could bring when she returned to India.

I do not own much stuff now. Moving house every few years, I have become better at keeping only what I need. If something has not seen any use in a year, it goes. Notwithstanding the occasional trip home during the holidays, none of the stuff in that cabinet has been used in over a decade now. They have, however, remained.

When I go home, which is a couple of times a year, I start digging through my things. The Transformers, Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle figurines, the Lego boxes, the View-Master, games that I hope to play again some day, the remote controlled cars and even school workbooks. All that stuff - it has not changed, but I have. I have moved past them.

I'll get some of my things out of there soon. Very soon. I want to believe that because they must never have been locked up this long.
